Student Insurance Plan

My S is an incoming freshman. We just received a packet about a school insurance plan. It is $2500/ year with a $200 deductible and some co payments. If you do not want the plan, you have to send back a waiver form. You will still be charged $287/semester to be able to “use” the Infirmary for small things. I was wondering if current students think the plan is good. How good is the Infirmary-how expensive is it if you need a strep throat culture or an antibiotic? Do you wait long for a doctor, or is everything done by a nurse? Are any other freshman taking out the plan?We have minimal insurance, but I am not sure if this plan is worth it.

bump - is there anyone out there contemplating taking out the ins plan? The waiver is due by June1. Are there any current students who took it out and felt it was worth it?

I didn't get the insurance because my parents have coverage, but did pay the health services 200$ fee. I haven't been sick too often so far, but once this year I thought I might have had strep, and was easily able to get an appointment. Students can have free appointments to see doctors or PAs, which is nice (assuming you pay the health svcs fee). The doctor didn't think I needed to have a lab, so I don't know how much the tests would typically cost.
