So I’m debating between Stony Brook and SUNY Albany. Academics wise, Stony is obviously the better school, but Albany is known to have better student life in terms of parties. Is everything I’ve read about there being nothing to do at Stony true or just one big exaggeration?
Everything about the social issues at stony brook are true. The biggest warning sign that is definitely true is that a lot of these females are taken. If you are a guy, single, and is ever looking for a relationship during your time at Stony Brook, DO NOT COME HERE. This is probably the worst school you can be in the United States if you ever looking for a female as dating material unless you live here. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Beside that, Albany does have better parties and Stony Brook is better than Albany in terms of academics.
I have read on CC and other sources how “horrible” student life is at SB and I don’t get it!!
I know many, many students who love it there (including my son). There are hundreds of clubs. There are activities for both commuters and residents all week. There are plenty of students that are there on the weekends–so no it is not empty on weekends. The campus is surrounded by beautiful suburban areas to explore including the waterfront village of Port Jefferson. You can also take the train to NYC for endless entertainment options. The Staller Center has musical performances every weekend. You can attend the athletic games. There is a rec center where you can workout. The list goes on and on.
The opportunities are endless and your experience is only limited by how you choose to tske advantage of all that is offered. Don’t believe all the negative things you read.
If you ever want a meaningful relationship as in anything more than hooking up or being friends, do not come here. For single guys who want to look for any type of relationship or love, I promise you that I wouldn’t lie to you so do not come here if you value anything related to love or relationship. If you are solely and I do mean solely here for academics and research, than come.
Unless you live around this area your entire life, I never been in a place that’s so anti-love. By anti-love, I mean an outsider will have little chance of finding of love due to the nature of the environment and Stony Brook.
