Student loan disbursement and bank account on FAFSA

Trying to recall - on the FAFSA question where you report the total of your bank accounts on the day you file, do you include refund student loan disbursements that were deposited into the bank accounts? It's been awhile since we've had that happen so I can't remember. They were just refunded within the last week so on the surface it looks like they have a little chunk of money in the bank - but much of the total account $ is loan money. The school-related expenses they will be using it for have not come up yet and probably won't before the FAFSA deadline and we don't want it to appear like we are all lying with the bank account numbers.

If I recall, the last time this happened we just subtracted it from the amount in the bank, but I'm not sure how FAFSA would know that it really is loan money in there if they ever asked for verification. We obviously have proof it was deposited but how would they know that it really wasn't touched yet? Thanks to anyone for clarifying.

Proceeds from student loans are not included in assets reported on FAFSA.
