Hi friends,
To be frank, I’m pretty embarrassed that I’m on “College Confidential” right now. This site conjures up some feverish nightmares from the past; those terrible years when I stressed about college apps in high school. That said, I’m hoping that someone can humor my questions/concerns.
I’m tentatively considering transferring to Swarthmore because I’m appalled at the quality of my education at a public university. It’s very bad. I understand the constraints that public universities face but I started out at a “prestigious/selective/elite” liberal arts college and can’t fathom how people put up with large classroom sizes + lectures. I want to be challenged and have the ability to discuss intellectual concepts with likeminded students. Naturally, I gravitated towards Swarthmore, which reminds me of my old school.
I have some questions:
-how are mental health issues at Swarthmore?
-could someone give be a raw/unalloyed sociological account of student culture at Swarthmore? If not, I “get it”, this is a contentious question but I’d like some info about the composition of students in terms of their economic and ethnic background . After attending a liberal arts college, I realized that this matters, especially if you’re non-white or from a lower middle class/working class background.
-Is “balance” possible at Swarthmore?
Thanks in advance for the help!
