Austin voters rejected a referendum to increase police dept funding Yesterday, so there may not be any additional help from that source.
Yes, there was a lot of outside money that helped defeat the proposition to increase funding to the police.
Oh, my gosh, I remember lots of homeless people on the Drag in the early 80s!
I attended UT from 1984-87 working part time at a nearby Thunder Cloud Sub shop. I don’t recall seeing any homeless on campus (I was primarily in the engineering/math areas). I do recall a few that hung out on the drag, but IMO they were cut from a different cloth than the current crowd. They were non-aggressive, quirky, and very fragrant but definitely not anything that would constitute threat, perceived or otherwise.
I grew up in Austin and always saw homeless people on the Drag, even when we hung out there when I was in high school. They weren’t always nice.
Did you see any of the issues with the homeless on campus that many complain about now? I certainly did not.
No, not on campus. Just the Drag.
This is horrible and disgusting!! Your daughter deserves better.
OP, I feel for you. What is most frustrating is the gaslighting I see when people post about the crimes their own students witness only to be told that crime is not up and there is no problem. Unfortunately this is happening everywhere due to politics.
This is horrible. I am sick and tired of the gaslighting I see (even on this page) where people want to argue that what your student is seeing is not indicative of a problem. Clearly crime is up.
