Safety

If you are not from the Austin area and are not familiar with UT and the surrounding off campus area - I encourage all those looking at UT to also consider safety. Austin is not the city it used to be and the current APD force is down to 80%. Our students are encouraged to have pepper spray and a personal alarm and have both UTPD and APD numbers on phone. They are told if you see ‘anything’ to report it. Please also look at the weekly reports from UTPD. Some can be eye-opening. I’ve received campus alerts for much of four years and even as a long time resident of Austin was simply shocked by what I would read. We teach our students situational awareness now and we have UT parent groups pushing for change from UT and the City in a long upward battle. Stay informed This is not meant to sway anyone’s decision just to be more informed. https://police.utexas.edu/ https://police.utexas.edu/reports/daily-crime-log

i also heard that the uber drivers are former ut students and are giving current students the worst advice about the “cool and fun” places to hang around - they are not cool and fun.

There is never a dull moment with what happens ON campus roads.

@greg12 I haven’t heard of much uber going on’s lately (mine only uses them for airport) as the e-scooters are the newest hottest controversial topic. Driving around campus is like a game of dodge the e-scooter users.
