Student traveling alone to audition

I am wondering if someone can help me give information to one of my D’s friends who is planning on traveling alone to Elon for his audition on Nov.21. He is a very independent young man who requested the Nov.21 audition date but his family cannot travel with him at that time. Although I will be there with my D and I can transport him to and from the airport, I don’t know if he can get a reservation at our hotel and I don’t know if his audition schedule will coordinate well with my D’s. For instance, we hope to make the evening dance concert if she if done early and I don’t want to be committed to waiting for her friend and missing the concert. He asked if I know of any nearby hotel that has a shuttle or can he take a cab to and from the school. I don’t know if you can even rent hotel rooms by yourself if you are under 18? Can anyone help with information on who he can contact about lodging and transportation and if they know of anyone who went to Elon’s audition without a parent or adult friend.

My son traveled to Elon alone last year for his audition. There are no hotels in Elon as you might already know. There is one B&B, The Acorn Inn. Mike and Melissa Brown, the owners are wonderful. They were very nice to my son. Now that he is attending Elon, he still tries to visit them when he has a chance. The number at the Acorn Inn is 336-585-0167. In Burlington, approx 4miles there are a number of hotels along the Interstate at Exits 141 and 143, Hampton Inn(very nice), Best Western, Ramada Inn. There are 2 taxi services, Golden Eagle Taxi (336)227-0550, JR Taxi (336)570-0070. My son traveled to all of his auditions alone and had no problems with hotels. But he will need credit card in his name and hotel reservations in his name as well. May want to call hotels first if he doesn't stay at the Acorn Inn. If you have any questions about Elon, let me know and I will put you in touch with my son. He loves Elon and the Theatre program there.

I would also recommend the Acorn Inn, and we stay there whenever it's available. They do provide shuttle service to and from the airports for their guests, for a fee (which is more for the RDU airport than the Greensboro airport). The Acorn is within very easy walking distance of the campus and the performing arts bldg.

PS - you shouldn't have any trouble making the dance concert from the audition or coordinating with his audition, because the concert is in the black box, right down the hall from the recital hall where auditions are held. The dance concert requires tickets, so be sure to call (I think the 14th).
