Student Visas??

Hey, Im an international applicant to Yale.

I was wondering if I need to apply for student visas on my own, or is it kind of 'built in' to my application/acceptance package?

Thanks!

I’m pretty certain that you need to get your visa from the nearest US consulate/embassy ASAP. It’s up to you to be qualified. If you don’t get one, no US college will admit you.

Maybe look at the US Dept of State website?

[U.S</a>. Department of State](http://www.state.gov/)

There’s nothing “built in” about your application to US colleges – they are totally separate. You need to call immediately

As far as i know after you get acceptance letters, then you go to the embassy and apply for a student visa. I dont live in the US and I have classmates who have gotten accepted at colleges and havent applied for their us visas yet.

[EducationUSA - Apply & Be Admitted](http://www.educationusa.info/pages/students/visa.php)

from above link

The U.S. academic institution or program sponsor will provide you with the appropriate SEVIS-generated form only when you have been academically admitted to the institution or accepted as a participant in an exchange program

lizzy: thanks for that. My reply was only guesswork. My apology to you TG1000 if I made you panicked. I thought one had to have been approved with visa in hand before applying.

as far as i know, you will get some supporting document from the college you choose to attend. you’ll need the document to apply for visa at the nearest us embassy

Upon acceptance, your college will send you your I-20. Without this document, you cannot apply for an F-1 visa.

The Office of International Students at Yale seemed really committed to helping the students here with any problems they might have (including free dinners during spring break)

You might wanna contact them.

thanks for all the help and the links everyone! its been a huge pressure-release cause at least now i know what im doing lol
