Thinking about applying to University of South Carolina. Looking for anybody’s thoughts on housing, academics (preferably business related), food, and social life (clubs, parties, etc)
Not sure what kind of detail you’re after. I would suggest spending some time on website and youtube looking at housing and campus tours and business school page. Housing is guaranteed (and required) for freshmen. High percentage move off campus after that but there is lots more inventory on campus compared to recent years as rehabbed dorms go back on line. Percentage wise you have best chance of staying on campus if in honors college (app due Nov 15 if that applies). Brand new business school with top rated international business if that’s your thing. Also hear good things about global chain supply.
As to food - it’s a college campus You are required to have meal plan freshman year, but do not have to have full plan (as some colleges require). Lots of nearby places to eat. Social life - it’s a big school. Greek life is popular but in reality accounts for about 30% of students. So lots of students are not involved in Greek life. Plenty of opportunities for club or intramural sports, student government, clubs based on major/interest, religious groups, service organizations, etc. Niece loves being part of Carolina Productions which does student programming. In addition to these activities, my D and her close friend group were involved in things such as Peer Counseling, Carolina Ambassadors (tour guides), Orientation guides, research, and study abroad.
Also take a look at Daily Gamecock (student newspaper) online to see what is happening around campus. Try some open facebook groups to ask questions to students - there are a few here but mostly parents.
