student's assets

hello. for checking account/ students' asset question, i put what i really had in my checking account.... $700. BUTTTTTTT! i didn't know that it should exclude the financial money!! my counselor told me that assets questions are the questions where you can't update or change things. like $600 out of $700 was from my leftover financial aid! T_T this will reduce my aid ...what do i do? i already made 4 corrections total and i don't want to go back and change it again... my counselor didn't recommend me so. she said just wait till like mid-april and come back and my school will try to work thins out for me to change it , if i submit some forms.................

will $700 make a drastic change to my fiancial aid? please helppp!!!!!!

Most schools’ formulas will assume that you’ll contribute 20-25% of your (student) assets per year. That would reduce your aid by $140-175 next year, and each successive year unless you get the school to change it. Your counselor is correct in suggesting that you work this out with the Financial Aid office at your school, but I don’t think there’s a need to wait until April. I’d just go ahead and give them a call.
