Study Abroad in Valencia for Summer Session 2

My daughter wants to do the second summer session in Valencia this year. Surprisingly, spots are still open. I tried to find out today from the International office what the cost of attendance is for this session but didn't hear back yet. Does anyone know what total cost of attendance is for this specific session? I'm not looking for the $7500 price tag quoted on their website but total cost of attendance. Thanks!!

Never did study abroad so I can’t tell you a ballpark figure from experience, but here’s what I’ve found from a very brief search:

Hmm, they don’t really seem to make it all that easy to find that information. All you get is that $7500 price tag and then below you get this paragraph:

Airfare will probably be killer. I just did a general search for airfare for dates around the start and end dates on Kayak (from Tampa, FL to Valencia, Spain), and it was $1400. Now, that’s going to change depending on when and where you want to fly out and back in, but that’s a rough estimate there.
The passport, if you don’t have one, can run I think $150-$200 or so.
Food is tough to guess. They mention that you get like 4 meal vouchers a week. So you have to plan for everything else. I’d plan for probably the absolute worst and go $100 a week for what your daughter might have to cover. It will almost guaranteed not be that much, but better safe than sorry.
Personal: That’s dependent on the person.
Books/supplies: a couple hundred bucks probably. I’d say $300ish just to be safe.

So:
Airfare: $1400-1500
Passport: $150ish
Food: I’d say $500-600 to be safe
Books: $300
Personal: I’d probably go a couple hundred. $250 for ease of counting.

That’s $2500 or so not including what they list as the price. I’d be willing to venture a guess and say that $10,000 for everything would be a pretty accurate guess.

Thanks Pasbal - Your calculations were pretty close. I got a call back today from International and the price tag for that session, in case anyone reads this thread in the future, is ~$11,700 with all incidentals/personal expenses. etc. taken into account. They, of course, leave a lot of room for extra money in that total (almost $4000 US) once you pay for books and the $7500 package you reference above. That $4000 includes the $1500 in airfare that you will already have paid before this money disburses so that’s almost half of the left over money that I mention above.

For future readers, if you fly out of Atlanta there is a nonstop both ways on Delta that works great for this trip.

Thanks again Pasbal!!!

No problem janna! You’re very welcome.

It would be nice if they listed not just the known cost, but also an estimate of the additional costs on their websites, sort of like how FSU does with their Cost of Attendance page.

If you weren’t paying attention you could think that the $7500 was all-inclusive, and then get quite a bit of sticker shock when your kid needs a few thousand more dollars to survive once they get somewhere.
