Study Abroad info

Hi, Can anyone give insight into the study abroad programs at Cornell. I understand the language requirement for non English speaking travel. If you go during the school year, does your Cornell tuition pay for the study abroad tuition? Does Cornell help with housing, etc?

What experiences has anyone had?

Thanks,

My older went to Australia for study abroad. She paid study abroad college tuition, even though it was higher for international students her tuition for that semester was a lot lower than Cornell’s tuition. For this particular program, she had to find her own housing, which was a bit of a pain. One thing to keep in mind is you will get P/F on your study abroad courses and will not get a letter grade. If you are interested in study abroad, you will need to plan out your course work carefully to make sure you could graduate on time.

My older daughter enjoyed her one semester in Australia. Even though it’s an English speaking country, it was still very different than the states. It was rough going the first month, but at the end she loved the place. She made a lot of new friends, some even came to Ithaca to see her. Now she is in NYC, whenever one of them pass through, they’ll reach out to her.

Cornell has a lot of different programs. You should talk to students about their experience and choose one that’s best fit for you. Australia was very expensive, and I would imagine London would be the case also. There are some parts of the world I wouldn’t want my kid to go to now - health or personal security.

You should also take on campus job recruiting into consideration when you are considering study abroad. Some firms will let you interview in fall if you are going to be away in spring, but many firms will only interview in spring for junior summer internship.
