Studying abroad--questions!

Do many undergraduate students study abroad over the summer? How is application process different for summer study abroad (as opposed to regular full year/spring semester study abroad). Is it difficult to get accepted? Can you do it in the summer after your freshman year?

anyone???

People who do summer study abroad’s don’t necessarily have to go thought the Cornell Abroad Office (I’m not even sure there is an option through them). But there are many opportunities available to study in the summer to do a variety of things (research, classes, service) that Cornell can help you find (I know engineering advising promotes some of these programs) or that you find on your own. Since you aren’t going through CUAbroad, you do have a lot more flexibility in terms of where and when you’ll go. One of my friends studied and did research in Germany over the summer, another went to Croatia to teach kids english.

I’m pretty sure that even if you aren’t going directly through Cornell, there would be people who help you find options. I know people who are going abroad for the summer, although like vivace, it’s more research and less taking classes.

There are some summer study abroad programs listed here (these are just the Summer 2010 offerings, and I’m sure they change year by year): [Courses : Off-campus programs : Cornell Summer Session](<a href=“Summer Session - Courses & Programs - Courses for Credit”>Summer Session - Courses & Programs - Courses for Credit)

I’d also like to ask…if we study abroad through CU, how does our FA carry over?

I concur with the financial aid concern. Would it cover study abroad expenses?

I was actually wondering about summer study abroad THROUGH cornell. I saw in mentioned briefly on the website, but I couldn’t find more info on it.

The link I posted is summer study abroad through Cornell…lol. But offerings are very limited compared to academic semesters.
