Study abroad oppotunities at Rice?

i am very interested in studying abroad for a semester or a year
(not just for summer) to learn foreign language, especially japanese.

i am wondering what kind of opportunities are available for Rice students..
any firsthand experience of studying abroad?

where should i look for to get detailed info about studying abroad?

Are you white?

ArchHopeful that has no impact on study abroad opportunities.

Rice Abroad here is your web site. you can choose the country, whether you want english or foreign language. Check it out.

It was out of personal curiosity.

Singersmom07 // that's a wonderful site. thank you!

ArchHopful // I am not

I'm thinking about doing that too! Japan ftw. But I wonder about the financial aid. Most programs cost less than rice tuition etc etc but i bet the expenses make up for a lot of it. anyone have any experience with fin aid on study abroad? :D

I studied abroad my Junior year. I'm not on financial aid, so I have no experience with transferring that, but my understanding is that you can transfer any financial aid you receive from Rice to the abroad institution.

One thing to consider: the university that I was studying at was a bit cheaper than Rice (about $4000) but by the time I took into account a plane ticket there and the extra expenses of being abroad (hey, Morocco's just a quick flight away, why not go there for a long weekend .... when's the next time it's going to be nearby?) it probably cost exactly the same as Rice. But a lot depends on where you go and what you do while there.
