study habits?

what is a good way to go about studying in college? Should you go over all material each day regardless if you had the class that day or not? should you only study sunday through friday? what is a good method to excel and retain information?

please someone helpp with this

It really depends on what study method works for you and the difficulty/type of your classes.

Freshman year I tried only studying a week/5 days before an exam. Bad. Idea. I am a direct admit in Kelley, on scholarship and always did well in high school. Freshman year was a HUGE wake up call for me. A lot of classes have just 2 or 3 exams and thats pretty much it, so if you screw up on one exam your final grade is going to be unfavorable.

Sophomore year I completely changed my study habits. I started reviewing material each week and ensuring I understood what was going on in class. If something was confusing, I would go to office hours. This made studying for the test a lot less stressful, and I was able to bring my GPA up extremely. I went from a 3.2 freshman year to a 3.87 this semester. Big difference.

I know everyone has different study habits, but I suggest following what I did this year to avoid screwing up freshman year.

Thanks for the advice that is really helpful. I know everyone has their own method I am just looking for advice from current students on how often they study for each class and things like how often to review old materials.

Hi IUStudent40,

It really depends on your ability to retain information and prior study habits. If I were you and what I did was take an extremely conservative approach at first. I would review half of my classes on Friday after classes were done that day. I would then review the other half of my classes on Saturday and possibly start on homework then. Sundays were always the day full of homework for me. I would try out this method along with other methods to see what fits you and your schedule. Adjust as necessary, but I think it is most important to study enough or too much at first as it is always better to be safe than sorry with your grades and GPA.

Good luck!
