Study Hall

Since W&M Admissions is so good at providing feedback, I thought I'd try this one. How does W&M view taking a Study Hall period or early dismissal for seniors? My daughter is currently a junior and doing scheduling planning for senior year. She will be taking five AP courses plus Yearbook (she will be the editor next year) on top of varsity sports and other extra-curricular activities. She is considering taking a study hall period as she already has more than enough credits to graduate with an Advanced Studies diploma. In addition to wanting some additional time to manage her work load, her reasoning is that without taking a sixth AP class, she would actually hurt her cumulative GPA even if she was to get an A+ in a non-weighted class. Would W&M view not taking the maximum number of classes available as "slacking off" in her senior year?

@VACODad, we do not object to a study hall or early dismissal provided the student is taking a strong course load. They don’t have to take a class every period but we generally like to see students taking at least 5 academic classes per year as most W&M students take 5 classes a semester.
