Do you think that students with IB diploma stand better chance than ones who attend just AP classes when applying to colleges? I read many statics on CC and it seems most of people got into Ivy just took AP courses. Maybe IB and AP are equally challenging?

Though this has nothing to do with prep school…

It depends, getting a five on AP and going through many APs is pretty good looking.

IBs are WAY harder than APs but not all schools have the IB program. They can’t like hold the fact that the school doesn’t offer IBs against you. Like my current school only allows you to start taking APs junior year so while some people can take like 15 APs, we can only take 10. Your AP scores have no affect on what colleges you get into because the only reason you would send them in is if you were trying to get college credit.

And it has a lot to do with prep school…

Not necessarily. I’m in a school that offers the IB program. When your in a program where all you take are “IBs” … not every IB is harder or even way harder than an AP class. Your required to take 3 higher level classes and 3 standard. The high level classes are probably just the same as APs. I mean…people are smart, but you can’t tell me anyone can survive taking all APs. In the IB program, your not only taking some “IB classes”. Its a very organized layout of exactly what you need to do.

I feel like IBs are more of a process than APs. You have to do more work for an IB. APs are difficult. I have taken multiple APs, I know. AP Calc AB and AP Latin Vergil are literally the death of me. People can survive taking all APs…3 of my friends are taking 6 this year and have straight As.

A lot of schools are de-emphasizing the whole AP thing ( I know the Putney school is one of them). Kids will sign up for courses not because of their interests, but simply because there is “AP” before the course name. Of course take tough classes in subjects you really enjoy though.

Yeah that’s the way it works now. It sucks but its the truth. Though my friends who are taking 6 are like really smart and not doing it because they are APs. They are doing it because they are at that level.
I only take APs of classes that I am good at. I’m taking 2 this year and I took 2 last year but I think I’m going to take 4 next year.

I’ve taken 2 AP’s already. And it’s harder in my opinion. IB is to subjective

Everyone has their own opinions. Yours is probably more valid because you are the one who knows about IBs. From what I have heard from my friends who do them, they are more difficult but whatever.

IB will be hard if your teacher hates you. Especially on a 1-7 scale. They can make a 7 a 5 and easily validate it to the administration. It’s BS, you have to suck up to them and be smart for good grades. It takes to much energy to suck up…

More schools just do APs.

I can’t wait to do course selection. I think I’m doing AP psych AP Physics AP calc BC and I guess that is it unless I decide to take AP computer science. plus a few art classes and non APs.

The stressful part about APs are trying to fit the whole course in before the AP. We seriously did the last chapter of AP Stat the day before the AP. It was slightly frightening. I got a 5 on that AP. It was nice.

Thanks all of you

You know how some public schools offer college credit, do BS’s have that as well, or would their courses be similar? ( 'cuz it does look good to have college credit, even if it’s community college. )

Yes they do but college credit is hard to get.
You have to have taken college level courses or do well on APs/IBs.
You have to get 4s or 5s to be even considered. So unless you get a 4 or 5 or don’t particularly need college credit DO NOT submit your AP scores. It won’t help you at all.

GAH! I can’t stand IB.
