I took a good courseload my senior year thinking college academics would be very tough. I get here and haven't studied much, yet I'm pulling mostly As. Are you guys/girls studying much in college? Are you having to study and work as hard as you would have imagined in high school?

I'm not gonna lie, college academics are a joke...

I studied more in 7th grade than I do now...

lol. Where do you go? But ya I dont seem to have more work than i did in my last few years of high school.

NYU. I think the workload will start intensifying over the years though...

Freshman year was fairly easy and laidback for me, but sophomore year has been a completely different story so far.

It depends on your major and school.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of...lol.

yeah, freshman year was cake. sophomore was a huge shock. after that things you learn to adjust and then senior year was just insane.

The only time I really study is when tests/exams are coming up. The rest of the time, readings and homework assignments keep me pretty busy.

Anyone who says their courseload was light aren't engineering majors

I'm doing a ton of work :(

Well, my coareload was "light" but not because I didn't have a lot to do...because I didn't feel like doing it; and my gpa is a result of that. It's not a bad gpa, I just know that I could've done better. Now that I'm actually putting in all of my effort, I really do study a lot.

I think the workload is much harder than high school, but then again i care much more about my grades in college than i did in high school. Plus, Im taking two weeders and a hard GE. Hpefully it'll ease up next quarter...

Freshman year I barely had to work at all to pull a 3.5, but now I'm struggling for a 3.0 in my sophomore year, and I had more hours both semesters last year than I do now. Maybe it's just because I didn't take a science last year, or because I'm involved in alot more campus stuff which gives me less time to study, but it's really hard and it's stressing me out to the max. I've been trying to find a balance between friends/boyfriend, classes, work, and organizations, but it's not going too well at the moment.

The workload is crazy here (RISD, Rhode Island School of Design.) We apparently have the toughest workload in the country, surpassing even MIT. It's funny, because freshman year is sort of like art boot camp... we really don't have any time for anything but work. I mean, we could probably slack on our assignments and go out on the weekends, but everyone here is such a perfectionist that we are constantly working or in class (I have class from 8-5 three times a week, and from 9:40-1 the other two.) The lamest thing is that we aren't allowed to miss class... i understand why for studio classes, but I feel like I should be able to skip liberal arts (like art history section, where we review the lectures.) I really need a break, but at the same time I LOVE it.

Welcome to the world of studios grim67... it only gets worse through time. But really, what would you rather be doing, writing a term paper or working in the studio? I almost went to RISD for grad school, but the class time is the same everywhere for architecture anyway :)

Wow...I have a ton of work. I always have at least 2 papers to work on, and lots of quizzes...I dont understand how people have time to party haha...

My courses aren't hard. I go to a 4th tier state school, probably that's why. Anyways, I do study though, a lot more than the people on my floor. The town is so boring either you party, play halo, or study.

My courses are much more fair, but not easier, in college than they were in high school, as long as you are self-motivated. The people I know with academic-nightmares freshman year are the students who had AP teachers who spoon-fed them in high school because they never learned how to cover material on their own.

Last year (as a senior) I hardly worked at all. This year, though, I have a whole lot of work. Not much studying, except for right before tests, but tons of homework. All my classes are small (like under 35) so we get homework every day in all of my classes. It's annoying, but it's teaching me to work harder. I assume it will be easier next semester, though, because I'm taking 4 GEs right now, and I'll only have 1 next semester.
