Studying Abroad as an Accounting Major

Hi, I'm currently a 3rd year in college, but my status is sophomore. The reason for that is because I spent my first 2 years in college as an undecided major and when I've finally decided to major in Accounting I transferred out. I plan on doing the BA/MS CPA track program at my college so after this coming semester, Spring 2010, I'm going to have 3 years of college to go through.

So my question is, will going to study abroad to learn a language for 2 years at another country hurt me in any way? I hear that many public accounting firms prefer young students and so if I decide to study abroad for 2 years I'll be graduating with my BA/MS at the age of 25. Do you think it's ok for me to study abroad? Or should I just concentrate on my major at my home college and graduate as fast as possible? I have no problem financially.

Looking at this from a business perspective (which might be good for an accountant), it will probably be impossible for you to offset 2 years in lost wages, experience and college expenses in exchange for learning a language. Study abroad can be fun and rewarding, but 2 years is too much, especially since you’re already behind.
