I always wanted to study abroad but for one reason or another I was unable to but now I have chance to but I am 25 and would be 26 when I studied abroad. Do you think it would be a problem with me studying abroad at 26?

No...it's probably way easier since you're out of college (i'm assuming). You could rent your own apartment and just take classes with a local uni, instead of having to pay expensive program fees or relying on your home university and being limited as to where you can go. As long as you can gather the cash, you can go nearly anywhere you want to go.

why the hell would you want to study abroad and your not in college? Just hop on a plane and go where you want

You simply MUST go for this. It is not only "okay", it is vital to your sense of self and your future.

I might seem a bit too adamant on this point, but I am a nontraditional student who had always dreamed of studying abroad. Last summer, I did. And it really changed my worldview. All of the cliches are true; you will "broaden your horizons" and "grow as a person" and all of that. If you don't do it, you will always wonder.

I also understand why you want to be in a study abroad program, not just a vacation in another country. The structure integrates you into the life of real people in the country, and you also learn things and (perhaps) gain credentials along the way. I think it's a great idea.

Do it! :)

of course it's alright. i studied abroad for my second time last year (at 24) with a graduate SA program, and there were plenty of people your age. and age didn't stop them from having a great time, broadening their horizons, etc.

i agree that studying abroad and travelling on your own are very different. i've done both, but the structure offered by a SA program can be nice, especially if you haven't been abroad before. so like somone else said, go, or you will always wonder.

on my study abroad trip there was a guy who was 26. He was miserable because the rest of us were 18-21 so we partied while he ran away screaming telling us to be quit. So don't go on trips with undergrads because the age difference is too much.

thanks for the advice!
