George School has some incredible foreign service trips. (Domestic too!) Some are open only to students studying certain languages.
hi @gardenstategal , would you mind sharing some of the trips that you have knowledge about from george school? in particular, i have a child who would be interested in trips to spanish speaking countries. thanks so much in advance!
They have long-standing relationships in Nicaragua and Cuba. They also have something in France, Vietnam, and South Africa. I recently saw something on the IG page about something very cool in Greece thatâs new, and I think there are a few of those. I think a friendâs child went to China, and there was also something that required scuba certification in Belize(?) on reef preservation. My DS graduated several years ago, but they had trips to Brazil and Uganda as well. Fwiw, they also have some cool domestic things too.
I think George is really intentional about these trips â they usually are part of a course and tie into something bigger.
brilliant, thanks so much for this input, i had looked on their site but wasnât able to find this information.
Peru is mentioned here as well. Not a particularly intuitive website. Or at least, not consistently with my intuition!
this exactly!! i went to this site 4 times before i really considered it a contender for my daughter because i just found the site too tricky for my particular brain, but i am so happy that i was persistent. thanks so much for the help!
No, and you shouldnât do it. Freshman year is when you need to focus on adapting to your new school.
Lawrenceville has a longstanding relationship with The Island School in Cape Eleuthera, Bahamas. Many students go there for either a summer term or during part of a school year. Honestly, I wouldnât recommend doing it during the school year; you just miss out on way too much (especially given how fast the pace of life is).
Most (if not all) of the most frequently mentioned boarding schools on CC have Global Studies and study abroad programs. Obviously, there have been significant changes and limited opportunities since 2020. Check with each school - but I would not choose a school based primarily on their study abroad programs.
Deerfield students have done study abroad during Junior and Senior years, prior to COVID. There are also community service and intensive study programs offered during school holidays (2 weeks), as well as summer. There have been multiple opportunities for service trips and study programs during the summer.
If you are really into adventure and sailing - check out St Georgeâs school for their Geronimo trips that can last anywhere from weeks to months.
Bon Chance!
Just throwing out some info you may want to consider:
