Study Abroad

Ok. So I was looking at the AFS programs for studying abroad. Will a prep school allow you to study abroad for a year? Is anyone thinking about doing this or am I the only one? I'm looking into Switzerland, Germany, or Austria, as I have taken and will continue to take German and I attend a German summer camp. Is this frowned upon?

Thanks

When I visited Hotchkiss they had a whole office devoted to Studying abroad for a semester or 2

It is greatly encouraged at most prep schools.

its one of the things i’m looking forward to if i get in!

Most prep schools have their own study abroad programs, so you wouldn’t need to go through AFS. I just don’t think most prep schools will offer study abroad programs in Switzerland, Germany, or Austria. Choate offers study abroad for one term in Spain, France, Italy, and China, but beyond that, I’m not sure.

Study abroad is strongly encouraged here, and I have a feeling it’s like that at other schools as well.

Okay. Thanks for allthe feedback guys. Its just that I’ve taken German for so Lon and love it yet most people take Spanish programs so there are more Spanish and French opportunities than ones in German. Also, Afs has a Congress-bundestag scholarship tthat pays most of the costs. Plus, it’s anoying because I like studying German yet people often have major issues with an “off the beaten path” language. I sunno maybe I’m just worrying tomuh. I have to find something to obsess over until march 10!!
