Studying Abroad -- Ideas

Hey guys! I was recently declared a Hutchinson International Scholar. This includes a $4,000 scholarship to be offered to me only if I decided to study abroad. Im pumped about the opportunity and I just wanted to get some insight from my fellow CC'ers as to where I should go. Some quick background info - I am a business major (finance) and I speak Spanish and English fluently.

My first thought is Spain, second would be Chile. Any suggestions? Experiences to be shared?

I love Spain–I studied abroad a long time ago and ended up living in Sevilla for 7 years. I had a friend (and later, the son of another friend) who loved their experiences in Chile. I suppose it really depends on what you want to do and how much freedom you have. I am sorry, but I am not familiar with your scholarship–do you have to study abroad through a certain university or a certain type of program? Do you want to be in a financial/banking center such as Madrid?

In general, I would advise a program/setting in which you could take at least some classes with universitarios from either country–not predominantly with other Americans or foreign exchange students. I would also recommend living with a family or sharing an apartment with students from the home country to really feel integrated.

I would be happy to answer questions if I can.

PS I ended up with a husband and daughter during those seven years, but you do not have to go that route! If you weren’t already fluent, however, there is no faster way to learn to communicate than by falling in love. (I’m on this site because my daughter is a junior and we are researching colleges for her–go figure!)

Buena suerte y que lo pases estupendamente, en el pais que sea. Bueno, que lo pases bomba, como se dice en Espana :-)
