Does anybody have any experience with studying abroad in China? I'll be going abroad for a full year, so I was wondering if there were any testimonials for individual programs or locations. Thanks =).

Our high school had an exchange program, so I spent a few months in Beijing and I returned to China to the pearl river delta for a month last autumn. Really great experience.

This link will take you to a list of some programs in China with individual reviews and evaluations. You can sometimes contact the people who wrote the reviews for more information, too. Hope this helps!

I have lots of experience studying in China - I went through my university to Hangzhou in 07, to Nanjing on a scholarship in 09, and back for a year in Beijing on scholarship in 2010. All of my experiences were unique and challenging in different ways. I think China is kind of scary (even after living there) so if it’s your first time going, I would definitely recommend an organized program. It will help you feel at ease and focus less on bureaucracies/stress and more on learning Mandarin and having fun! I’ve consulted this website in the past for info on different providers, it seems like a good resource [Study Abroad in China | Study Abroad Program Reviews: China](Study Abroad Programs in China | Go Overseas)

I studied abroad in Beijing, China during the 2011 - 2012 academic year and absolutely loved it. I spent the fall semester in a U.S. study abroad program called [CET Academic Programs](http://cetacademicprograms.com/), and then I directly enrolled into Beijing University’s Chinese language training program during the spring semester.

While Beijing University’s program was extremely cheap and it was great to actually have a campus, I would say it’s better to go through an actual American study abroad program if your goal is to study Chinese. I definitely recommend CET in that case. The price is a little higher, but the environment can’t get much better for an intensive Chinese language program, they were great about getting us immersed into Chinese culture, and I know for myself it was a great stepping stone into life in Beijing (as I now live here!).

I wrote about my year abroad on my blog with posts about CET - [My First Days As A Student In China | The Study Abroad Blog](<a href=“The Study Abroad Blog - Nate Nault”>The Study Abroad Blog - Nate Nault), my semester at Beijing University - [The End Of My Semester At Beijing University | The Study Abroad Blog](<a href=“The Study Abroad Blog - Nate Nault”>The Study Abroad Blog - Nate Nault), and general China life.
ya, there are a bunch of programs, which kinds were you looking for?

My nursing student has an option to go there for 4 weeks this summer with her school, to spend about a week in each of Beijing, Xian, Nanjing and Shanghai. They will visit various hospitals and universities, as well as the major tourist sites at each location. All meals, housing and transportation is included, and they will earn 3 credits. It’s approximately $6500. Does this seem like a good deal? None of my kids have wanted to do study abroad before, but my nursing student is very excited. She’d have to borrow money for the experience, and otherwise would be graduating without debt.

^ That is not study abroad, that’s a vacation. Even more of a vacation than most study abroad. Unless the 3 credits swing it financially, she should take $2k or $3k and spend it on a long summer vacation to China. Flights will be about $1k, and it’s pretty cheap there.

She could probably go for 3 or 4 months for that amount of money.
