My son is an Applied Math major at Brown University and is researching study abroad programs in the
United Kingdom. He is able to study at Oxford, Cambridge or Kings College. The Oxford and Cambridge programs require a full year commitment while he can study at Kings College for one semester. Does anyone have experience studying abroad in London? Would a full year program be a better experience? He is a little concerned about being away from Brown for an entire year but also realizes that it would be exciting to study at one of these prestigious universities. I would appreciate any insight or advice.
Oxford and Cambridge would offer such a unique educational experience (particiularly for a Maths major) that I think would override the concern over the extra semester away. Kings is also a great school but living in the center of London may not be for everybody. Just my two pence worth!
Thanks for the advice – I agree that Oxford and Cambridge seem like a wonderful opportunity. I also think a full year in the United Kingdom will give him the chance to travel and explore Europe. I also realized he is also eligible to attend the London School of Economics for a semester but both of these schools do not seem to offer the same opportunities as Oxford and Cambridge.
^ Agreed. The nice thing about being here for a full year (3 terms) is that he will get 2 or 3 weeks off around Easter which is a great time to travel around Europe.
