Hello!

I am studying abroad this summer in the UK and I've been looking for information regarding credit cards. Which credit cards are best to use over in the UK which will incur the least amount of fees?

Also, any advice on cell phones would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I wouldn’t use a credit card for study abroad. Get a debit card or ATM card and use that.

My daughter is doing a year in the UK. She is transfering her debit to Bank of America (hers, wells fargo had horrible fees for abroad and here) They have a Barcley’s ATM connection and if you use thieir ATM machine there isn’t a transaction fee. She also was told to have 1 credit card and I got a Chase Sapphire with her as an authorized user for emergencies, etc. She and I get points for plane fare and any other item she buys. Capital One was also mentioned but you had to pick a card to either get airfare credit or another for other purchases, Chase had one for both. There are no fees with their cards for purchases.

Most students who went to the UK at her school got a phone there. There are many options, pay as you go, etc. Skype is the cheapest way to call home or communicate from your computer.

Make copies of your passport and write down numbers to call if your cards are lost or stolen. Keep that home and with you in a safe place.
