hello everyone.

I'm currently a junior studying abroad (heh) in Shanghai. As far as posting goes, I'm a new member but I've been lurking for a long time. I'm wondering if it is possible to study abroad if one takes premed (and still graduate within a four year period). Do a lot of people do it or is it generally not done because premed is so rigorous that they choose not to or simply can't? Is it possible to earn credit for premed courses at summer courses so a semester can be freed up? Will colleges accept credit from studies while abroad (namely Japan or Italy)?

Would it have to depend on how competitive or cutthroat a program is? I'm namely looking at programs at Amherst, Rice, and Tufts.

I'm actually not planning on going into medical school but I want to take premed so I can have courses needed to enter grad school for pharmacy. I actually want to major in psychology (at these schools as any rate).

I want to be able to explore different experiences while in college. Eg. becoming /tolerably/ fluent in Japanese ehh..., spending a semester abroad, etc. Does premed really consume so much of a student's life that they can't do much else (especially at the aforementioned schools).

I'm a fairly hardworking person and I'm also a pretty fast learner so I'm not horribly worried about courses being too difficult. It's really more of a question of time consumption. Will there be enough time and opportunity to do everything I want to do?

Thanks in advance to all advice.
