I'm considering doing a self-study of Italian this summer. I've taken about six years of French, and believe I've done well on both the AP and IB tests. This summer, I'll be traveling in Italy for a couple weeks, and would like to work the trip into a larger project of learning the language. I have a couple questions in this regard:

First, is this even feasible/possible? I don't expect that I'll be fluent or at an AP level, but I would like to learn something.

Second, if the answer to the first question is yes, then what is the best way to go about it, bearing in mind that I've got a background with French? Old AP books? Movies? Tapes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
