Studying Marine Biology in Graduate School with a Social Science Bachelors?

I’ve just finished my junior year of college at UCSB as a Psych major. Under my belt, I have taken a couple introductory bio and chem classes, statistics and introductory calculus, as well as some research in Psychology. I need to take 9 more courses in order to get my BA.

Each quarter (Fall Winter Spring Summer) I can take 4 classes along with research, but can only stay at UCSB for four more quarters.

Given that I will graduate with a Psychology BA, what should I do to help get accepted into graduate school for Marine Biology?

I have been told to do research in Biology and take as many courses in Chem, Physics, Calculus, and Biology as I can. I’ve also been told that research is more important than coursework, as I can “catch up” by taking the necessary introductory courses in graduate school.

You need both the courses and scientific research, if at all possible.

Your grad school application will be read looking for evidence that you will be ready for the coursework and that you will be useful in the lab. They like to see letters of recommendation from a professor that you did work for outside of class.

All about the research in this field.
