okay. i know this may be a "very" stupid question...but...-

Do many people who prepare for SAT (for a year) still get a bad mark?

(i know it depends on who im talking about..but what about majority of em?)
im starting to prepare it this september.
with my tutor for a year.
yikes.

In some cases studying and taking prep courses can make a huge difference. I think it helps most with people who are not good test-takers (i.e. don't work well under time constraints, don't do well with multiple choice questions) as they learn how the SAT works and how to adapt to its demands.

In other cases, studying and prep courses make very little difference, if any. I had a friend in the same situation as you (he took the stupid thing 4 times), despite lots of studying. He'd often study SAT vocab during actual classes. This is not an extreme you want to go to. At a certain point the law of diminishing returns kicks in. If you feel the studying isn't helping, cut back on it.
