Stuhlberg Requirements?

I’m a cellist and I’m doing all my college recordings in July and August this year for several reasons (mostly scheduling-wise). I’m also planning to enter a few competitions, including the Stuhlberg competition. All the other competitions I was interested in have their requirements online but the Stuhlberg website is weird and they don’t have their prescreen requirements up. So, has anyone entered Stuhlberg in the past, for cello, and remember what they had to submit? I just want to be sure I don’t have to record anything else besides the many pieces I’m already recording haha

I found the following for the upload requirements:

  1. Submit one movement of the same concerto that you will be performing at the semifinals if selected;
  2. We recommend that you include just one movement of a concerto. However, we also recognize that some movements are rather short, in which case, you may include two movements;
  3. The Bach piece should not be submitted with your application;
  4. The repertoire selected must be from standard repertoire with a readily available orchestral accompaniment;
  5. The recording must be accompanied by piano or orchestra;
  6. Cut lengthy tuttis, both in the introduction and in the body of the movement, if applicable.

Hasn’t your teacher had students enter before? I assume you are aware of the level of playing at this competition. I’ve know a number of the winners and medalists through the years. Many were high schoolers at the time of their wins and went on to study at Curtis and other most selective schools and teacher studios. Several have had management in their early 20’s. I’ve also known students who were accepted to the live rounds, but didn’t make it to the finals or didn’t medal in the finals. These were, again, high schoolers who went on to study with top teachers at Juilliard, etc. The level of playing is exceedingly high. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply! My teacher is relatively new, and did have many students go on to Juilliard etc to study cello, just none of them were really interested or motivated to do competitions haha. I do know many who did Stuhlberg and come to think of it don’t know why I didn’t just ask them. But thanks for your reply again :slight_smile:
