Stupid Graduation Requirments of your high school

4 years of PE/Health, 4 days a week. Gotta love NJ.

But theology? ewww

1 quarter of PE (some people “self-studied” PE, which involved self-logging hours apparently…)
1 quarter of life management or whatever (self-studyable)
Others are all academic requirements.

Religion every single semester for all four years. D:

I think that requiring gym for at least 4 semesters is good. At my school, a season of a sport counts as a semester of gym, though everyone is required to take PE their freshman year.

I’ll just C&P lol

Along with passing the CAHSEE (which is super easy).

My past PE teachers said that being able to swim is also a grad requirement. LIEZZ…since I still can’t. :P

To graduate with honors you need:
4 years of math
4 years of science
4 years of english
4 years of history/social studies
2 years of PE
1 year of fine are
3 years of a language
2 years of any elective

24 in total… ill graduate with 35-36 XD

I don’t find computer stupid… I actually liked my computer science class.

But we had to take health and communication art.

Health- we watch videos every other day about don’t do drugs or don’t drink and drive. It gets a little annoying after watching seven different videos that says the same thing. And we learn things like eating fruits and vegetables are healthy.

Comm. Art- It’s a speech class that all we need to do is 1) make a powerpoint that doesn’t even have to look good and 2) go in front of the class and read off the powerpoint. We get to choose to do our speech whenever we feel like it, and we basically get 100 if we do the speech. And yet, some people in my class still managed to fail.

So yeah, we have to waste our time in these classes for graduation requirements.

half year of health
half year of music/art
econ

excuse me: 4 years of gym (you only need 3 of math, science, and history) you cant get out of it either, no sports or indi study.
5 credits (1 semester) of applied arts( life skills? idk what its really called) ie. sewing, cooking, bs.

there are other requirements, but those make sense/dont waste huge amounts of time

S a D nj public schools.

A lot of the requirements being listed here don’t sound so stupid. Constitutional Law and economics are “■■■■■■■■ classes.”

For me it’s:
2 Years of PE
One semester of health
One semester of career planning

quite close to sushi_lub i think…

1 semester PE
1 semester Health
1 semester Fine Arts
1 semester Speech/Oral class
2 years of foreign language
4 years of english, math
3 years of science
3 years of history
1 semester of government (you need 1 year for honors graduation or something I think…)
We need elective credits too…don’t know how much. I dont think you really need to worry about those.

My school has a “swimming survival” graduation requirement that’s usually completed by the end of freshman year. You can either jump in and SWIM across the pool. Or you can sit at the edge of the pool, slide yourself in, and splash your way across. Either way you’ll pass.

Stupid ones?

1 Fine Art

1 Practical Art

(Half-year) Personal Fitness

(Half-year) Health/Life Management

1 Physical Education

Thankfully the arts can be fulfilled with somewhat-useful classes like:
Fine Art: AP Art History
Practical Art: AP Comp. Sci

4 years of history, science (2 science electives required), English
3 years of math and foreign language
1 semester of art appreciation, music appreciation, drafting, intro to computer sci, health, 5 tech (you chose), 10 tech (double)
2 senior electives
7 semester of gym (oh you are required to learn or know how to swim)

^ Lol. My school has the same requirements. Yeah, I think the pool is so disgusting in my school.

4 years of english and history
3 years of math and science
2 years of foreign language
4 years of PE

I think the math/science and english/history one should be switched

Here’s all the requirements… I don’t really think any are “stupid”, but some can definitely be a pain. (My guitar teacher only gave out Bs.)
3 years of foreign language, science, and math
4 years of history (the last year is more like a history/religion course) and english
2 years of music and art
2 semesters of health
100 hours of community service
Afterschool sports are required 2/3 semesters for freshmen and sophomores, and 1 and another afterschool activity for juniors and seniors.

…wow, that was a long list.

2 language classes
1 pe/health class
4 english
3 math
2 history one must be Gov/ econ
3 maths
1 computer class
1 art class
and to pass with honors, you must take 4 years honors english and have a 3.0 GPA or above

Alright, so keeping in mind that high school here is three years, grades 10-12, the requirements are:
-Three years of English & Social Studies
-Two years of Science (any type) and Math
-A semester of gym (taken forcefully in grade ten)
-Half semester CALM (Career And Life Management, kinda like health?)
-Ten credits (2 US credits) from Trades (Foods, Wood working, sewing, etc.), Fine/Performing arts, Second languages, Optional gym in grades 11/12 or any type of Work Experience/Trades Apprenticeship (which is offered in concurrently with the schools here)
-Ten credits in any grade twelve level courses in addition to English and Social.

I’m sorry if that was confusing, but the way my school (and every other school in the province) has it written on their site in a way that is much more confusing to someone who doesn’t understand how our system work.

the theology’s not that bad… freshman year was sort of terrible because of the teacher. coupled with the fact that i’ve gone to catholic school all my life and it was a rehash of everything i’ve learned since 2nd grade was NOT FUN.

hebrew scriptures sophomore year was actually quite interesting. i got to do a report on kierkegaard’s “fear and trembling” :D. same with peace and justice - actually one of the hardest classes at my school, and everyone has to take it. we talked about the world’s ills (poverty, terrorist, et al) and how one might actually go about solving them. my favorite was the terrorism unit because we did a whole pre-unit on islam and the different sects. unfortunately for most people islam=terrorism, but thanks to p&j a whole slew of girls know differently.

this year is sacramental theology, which is so much fun. we get to meditate and draw mandalas and watch john cusack movies. then next semester is world religions, which i’m very excited for (as a unitarian-universalist-catholic hybrid with buddhist leanings. it’s possible. :p). I wonder if we’ll cover UUism…

that turned out a lot longer and more rambling than I thought it would…

6 years of hs, and:

5 years of english, math, history
4 years of a foreign language
5 years of science
3 years of art and music
4 years of health
6 years of gym (lawl, I know).

I think that’s most of it…
