If I didn't file FAFSA but submitted the CSS profile to some private schools, do I still qualify for aid?

My dad told me not to bother with the FAFSA, because an online calculator predicted that we wouldn't get much, so I didn't file it before the Feb 1st deadline most privates have. But I DID submit CSS since I applied to UChicago EA and I already had a copy. Did I just wasted 48 bucks? Or can I still qualify for insititutional aid w/o filing FAFSA?

Often FAFSA filing is a requirement in order to receive merit scholarship even if your don’t qualify for FAFSA money. Always check with each school rather than guess to avoid losing opportunity.

Call the school. You may need to file a FAFSA, too. Besides, even if you don’t qualify for aid, if you want to take a Stafford student loan, you need to file a FAFSA.
