I want to major in anthropology and the colleges that I’m applying to require 2 SAT subject tests but do not precise which ones they recommend for an anthropology major. I’m planning on taking 3 subject tests and one of them is French for sure. I’m stuck with choosing 2 other subject tests that reveal my strengths and are related to my major. I know I can get an 800 on Math 1 but Math isn’t really related to anthropology. I know that literature and US history can be options but I’m afraid I won’t score a very high score on them. What should I do?
Take whatever you think you will score high. Colleges will not knit pick to see if your subjects match your major. Engineering looks for math + science , occasionally some other majors look for math but other than that is whatever the student like. An 800 in math is good for any major.
My sister is an anthropology major applying to grad schools (she’s sitting the GRE at this moment). Things to consider: what parts of anthropology do you want to do? Forensic route , medical examiner route, cultural route, etc. Saying anthropology is like saying physicist, what kind do you mean?
The things she tells me: she wish she knew more math. It’s mostly statistics related stuff, but in general math is used everywhere. For that reason, I think you might consider taking a math test. If you’re going the cultural route, consider history, but if you’re going medical consider biology.
In general, keep with french, take math, and pick something that relates to a specialty of interest. And make sure you pick the stuff you’ll score well on.
Also, don’t get cocky about your math. I’m looking at being a math major (36 math act, 80 math psat, aime qualifier, will be half way through a math major before I start college, etc) and I wasn’t confident enough to take math level 1. The curve is very harsh, to the point where you have to get at most one question wrong to get an 800. Unless you’re a math genius, in which case take level 2, don’t just assume you’ll get an 800 on level 1.
Good luck. Anthropology stuff is really fun from what I’ve seen!
