has anyone taken the literature sat subject test? do they question you on specific books and titles or no? was it hard? what about u.s. history? someone fill me in if they have taken either of these tests and how hard they were! what should i study for literature??

I took both last spring.
For the Lit, no you do not need to have any prior knowledge of some specific book--format wise, it's very similar to the CR section of the SAT I, reading passages of various types of works: poetry, personal essays, stories, etc. Questions are often similar too though they can get a bit trickier. Terminology isn't really big--I remember there was only one terminology question on my test so I would recommend you going through a list of terminology maybe two or three times before you take the test and going through it one last time the night before the test or something like that. I used both Barron's and Princeton Review to study. I found Princeton Review to be more accurate when compared w/ the actual test. Barron's was just ridiculously and unnecessarily difficult so if you really want to use it, I'd recommend just using it to study and review, not for the practice tests.

U.S History
I used AMSCOhost since I was studying for my USH AP at around the same time. VERY dense--I probably started studying for my May SAT II and AP like late Feb/early March? It's a lot of material to get through but it's really helpful for both tests--I think that if you're prepared to do well on the AP, the SATII should be fine for you. Then after going through AMSCOhost--I read like 1-3 chapters per week over like six weeks, I quickly skimmed through U.S History for Dummies--despite the name, it's a great summation and crash course right before the test.

I got a 730 on the Lit and 740 on the USH. (Took both in one sitting)
Lit wasn't too bad, pretty much what I was expecting--the USH was slightly harder than I thought. History is usually my forte but there were a few really obscure questions on the test (like Indian marriage rituals...weird) but it wasn't too bad. I was also sick that day so I suppose you can take that into account.

Hope this helps. :)

kinda disgree with lit part. coz there are lots of literary terms on the lit exam. the question style is also kinda different from the cr on sat i.

yeah the lit is a lot harder than CR on SAT, but in a different way. Lit tests you on different, more specific things, like poetry, etc. USH is pretty easy if you had a good teacher/prep book. I recommend Kaplan for USH, and PR or Barrons for lit.
