Has anyone sublet an apartment before and could give me advice on how to do this? My lease starts this June, but I won't be here for the summer, and I was just wondering how I should go about the process of subletting like advertising and when/where I should start. Any other suggestions would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

I haven’t sublet an apartment but I’ve lived in a sublet.
my best recommendation is to start mentioning to all your friends that you are looking to sublet. I found my sublet through casual conversation last time. you also benefit from having some sort of connection with the person living in your place (even if it’s a friend of a friend.)
I’d also say that a lot of people I know around campus are still finalizing summer plans in terms of internships and REUs and they’re not sure if they’re going to be in Ithaca yet or not. I think after spring break you should really ramp up the search.

I never sublet, but make sure you read the terms of your lease regarding subletting first. C-town leases are notorious for not being “standard” and designed in a way to screw tenants at all cost.

I’m currently subletting my apartment. Just post a listing on Craigslist. Within a few hours, I had 5 or so Cornell students email me and within a few days, the sublease agreement was signed.

Oh okay nice. And do you guys have any suggestions for setting prices and stuff? Thanks so much for responding btw!
