hey guys i just submitted my waitlist form to NYU just now (april 15th). they said they will give me a decision anytime between may1 and august 1st. my question is how soon will they send me a decision? what do they base the time of me getting my admission decision on?

Last year, many on the waitlist were still waiting to hear at the end of May. Then some were asked if they were interested in an extended waitlist going into June. So, if the past year’s trend holds true (this is not guaranteed), you should hear sometime late May to June.

Though, keep in mind that this year RD notifications came out one week early (March 25 instead of the official notification date of 4/1 as cited in the NYU website). Maybe this earlier admissions notification will mean NYU will be ready to notify waitlisted people earlier than last year. MAYBE. Since the deadline for students deciding to enroll in NYU has apparently not changed (still 5/1?).

By the way, I do not think it matters if you are early in submitting your agreement to be on the waitlist. As long as you submit by the deadline NYU gives you, you have as good a chance as anyone else on the waitlist.

Normally, this is when the school gets to pick people off the waitlist based on what “gaps” they want to fill in the incoming class, e.g., geographical diversity, lower enrollment in certain majors or programs, etc.
