I accidentally submitted a research supplemental. I also submitted this to another college that required a cover sheet placed on it with their college name, my app number, my signature, etc. I accidentally submitted the wrong one and gave Harvard the one with the other college’s cover sheet on it. Am I screwed? I also turned in the correct supplemental afterward and emailed them requesting they take the mistake off.
also it was a college that I didn’t want to go to as much so I feel so bad!
Not in the least. Harvard Admissions understands that student’s apply to 8, 10, 12, 15, and sometimes more colleges and some of those schools are reaches, targets and safeties. Admissions won’t hold it against you knowing the name of another college you applied to. And, quite frankly, once the’ve seen that information it’s impossible to “unsee” it. I would just let it go, as your research supplement will be judged on it’s merits and NOT what other college you also sent it to.
If your application made it look like your very best quality was your meticulous attention to every detail, (a) this mistake really undermined you, and (b) you weren’t getting in to Harvard anyway, because that’s not what they are looking for. Otherwise, it’s mildly embarrassing to you but no big deal to anyone else, least of all Harvard. They know you are applying to other colleges, as gibby says, and they take for granted that you don’t like any of those other colleges more than you like Harvard.
Since Harvard’s supplement allowed you to write about anything, I wrote an essay that could very well have been for another school. And then I submitted my research abstract as an additional document on the portal. You should be fine.
I think the caveat here is, “If you are a very strong candidate, overall, to them,” then ok.
But more because this is Harvard, which knows its pull. Right now is the time to lean on your rational side.
@JHS - As hard as I try I can’t stop smiling.
