because the deadline for picking a school is near, i'd like to submit 2 sir's and later on (1-2 months from now) pick one that i'll attend

so, i've been fishing around the forum and read that some think it's a problem, and others (including those who have done it say it's no problem)...so i want so of your advices/suggestions/etc...

btw, pretty much it's between LA and I or LA and CAL

thanks

btw, i got into UCI and UCB as a civil engineering major, LA as an econ major

i know that for sure i want to civil engineering as my major (and if possible add on econ)…question is if should i risk going to LA to switch over, b/c i strongly want to go to LA…but afraid about the 20-30% chance of not being able to switch into engineering

thanks

Irrelevant question but

I wanna ask how you wrote your UC essay lol. “What is your intended major?” Did you write you are interested in econ+civil engineering or what? I want to know because I wanted to do that too but didn’t know that was possible… Just looks odd when applying to all other schools as an engineer then randomly applying as an econ major to one college.

On the berkeley SIR page it just says that if you change your mind you lose the $100 deposit.

I was somewhat trying to do that… but on USRA (UCLA website), it says “your admission might be jeopardized if you turn in more than one positive SIR to UC’s.” I’m not sure whether it means cancellation of admission for the entire UC system or just one campus.

So… make up your mind before the deadline so that you don’t have to worry about other details…

ccforumaq, I don’t know why you choose UCLA instead of Cal. Cal’s engineering majors are much better than UCLA.

I believe that somewhere on Berkeley’s website it says that you may only submit one SIR. I think it’s in the FAQ section, not sure though.

you might be screwed. I have a friend that did that for UCSD and UCI and they denied him later on

i wouldn’t try it. why are you putting off deciding what school you want to go to? we’ve known for almost a month now where we got in. Unless you were waiting to hear back from USC I would only submit 1 SIR.

You are generally never allowed to SIR to more than one school. You can, however, SIR to one school now and withdraw later on, if you get into the private school you want to go to.

see i’ve been getting different answers from different people…including people who’ve submitted 2…but i think they havn’t sent to sir’s simultaneously, like i want to

i just don’t want to get rescinded or something…but i want to think more carefully

the problem is the financial aspect of the whole thing…i live closer to uci, meaning if i go to ucla i’d have to live on campus/apmt. also, ucla picked me as one of their “random” people to verify for financial aid…turns out their giving me nothing…while uci is offering me about $20,000 ($10,000 for sure i’ll get other 10k is pell/cal grant)…but my parents and i sent a long letter to LA explaining losses in investments/real estate…so i don’t know what will happen with my fin aid for LA (i guess if i get same amount as irvine, then i’ll go)

this is why i want to send 2 sir’s at the same time, then pick one later (not pick one, then other; pick 2 then take back one)

suggestions/comments/etc

Please iTransfer’s question because I also want to know.

I highly suggest you wait before sending two SIRS. My friend submitted her SIR to Davis and is now contemplating over LA & SD. She called all three schools and they said it’s okay as long she cancels Davis’s SIR first and then call LA or SD.

Just wait, but if you can’t wait call them and ask them first. I’m sure they’re pretty lenient about this. Submitting two SIRs is a big no-no.

yeh, but the thing is that you need to send sir by june 1st…that’s why i wanted to submit 2 by then, then call them each and tell them i’m going to one

have you called the fin aid office to ask them about your fin aid since you sent the letter?

I don’t think they’re gonna change their minds. I had to submit the verification form as well, then I asked for a second review after they jacked up my EFC and got a response back today saying that they’re not gonna change their offer.
