Columbia’s art supplement is due tomorrow (Jan 1st), I just realized, but my video files are all locally stored on my PC at home. I only brought my laptop with me since I’m at a relative’s home several hours away for the new year holiday and I will not be home until Jan 2nd… if I submit the supplement on the 2nd am I going to be penalized?
This seems pretty clear, no?
Please note that supplements are not a required part of our admissions process. If you plan to submit supplementary credentials, please follow the instructions below.
Early Decision applicants must submit their supplements by November 1 and Regular Decision applicants must submit their supplements by January 1. Transfer Applicants must submit their supplements by March 1.

I have no idea if they will let you submit the art supplement late, but I wouldn’t count it, especially when the directions are quite clear. Can you go home today/tomorrow?
It’s an 8-hour drive and my family isn’t willing to leave early just for an optional art supplement lol. I get your point about the instructions being clear, but also, I know people who submit their Common Apps a few hours late since they are last-minute procrastinators usually don’t get penalized, so I was hoping there would be some leniency with the arts supplement as well. Maybe not. Idk
8 hours is longer than the ‘several’ hours you posted in your OP!
Unless a Columbia AO comes here to answer your question, it sounds like all you can do is try to submit it late. At least it’s not required, and who knows how much weight it would carry in the admissions decision anyway. Good luck.
Guess I will pray it works out lol. Thanks!
The flip side is submitting it late might penalize you whereas not submitting it wouldn’t. I say this because it shows an inability to follow instructions.
Not saying it will - I’m saying there’s no way to know. Just like you don’t know if a student submitting a late application to another school is penalized or not.
Does anyone - a friend or relative - have access to the computer?
I don’t know the answer - but there are all sorts of possibilities.
But frankly, should you not get in, you’ll never know why - and with a sub 4% acceptance rate - the odds are unlikely regardless. But I would personally not break a stated rule because to me, it’s easy to say - throw that person away. I could be wrong - it’s just how I think.
Best of luck.
I think I will submit it anyway. I feel like it would look really strange if an AO saw a long list of big arts awards then no supplement. If I was in that position I’d be a bit suspicious ngl. And yeah there’s no way for anyone else to access the computer until we get home
Good luck - hopefully it goes smoothly for you.
Is there anyone who can submit it for you? I understand it is optional. If you have a good art resume, it may not matter but in our experience these supplements can sometimes be important in admissions. You can call on Tuesday perhaps.
Well there you go. Hope you are lucky like your procrastinating friends.
I think you are taking a risk. If they didn’t want a Jan 1 deadline, they wouldn’t set one. Columbia knows that Jan 1 is a holiday (and this year a Sunday). Columbia also knows that many people are away for the holidays. Yet they set that as a deadline.
I think it is the deadline.
