Current GPA: 2.9

Attempting to Transfer to UC Davis
Major: Computer Science

Basically, I just realized that I needed to have my GPA raised to a 3.2 BY THE TIME I submitted my TAG request, as opposed to having my GPA raised BY THE SPRING QUARTER prior to transfer (2014).

My current GPA is a 2.9, and according to the TAG requirements, I need a 3.2 minimum to SUBMIT the TAG agreement to Davis. I was wondering if I'd still be accepted into the TAG agreement with this GPA. I only need 6 more classes to complete the TAG (2 of which I'm currently taking this quarter, the other 4 I planned on taking during Winter and Spring). In addition to this, I plan on retaking Linear Algebra, which I got a D in, which should improve my GPA greatly since my D would be replaced (I'm aware that they still see the D).

My second question is: assuming that my TAG wasn't approved, what do you guys think my chances of getting in Davis are (via regular transfer)?

tl;dr version:
My GPA is 2.9.
I'm fairly positive that I can raise it to 3.2+ by Spring 2014.
I need only 6 more classes to satisfy TAG.

Any chance that my TAG will be accepted given this GPA?
What are my chances of getting into UC Davis via TAG/normal transfer?

I think they are strict on the GPA requirement, you need to have a 3.2 as of right now, when you submit your TAG.

If I were you I would TAG a different school and make the normal application really good since you still have a chance at going to Davis. Or you could TAG next year, but you probably don’t want to do that.

By the way, I’m also a De Anza student, did you have Linear Algebra with MK?

^I’ll second underbear. Technically, you can submit a TAG even though you do not meet the minimum eligibility reqs according to the most recent Matrix, but it’s almost guaranteed that your TAG will subsequently be rejected.

You should TAG to another UC to at least have something on that approach, and then apply to UCD through regular transfer admissions. Once you get notification on which schools you were accepted to, then you can determine if you want to go with one of them or wait one more year and apply/TAG again.

Here’s my new question: Do you guys think that having all the requirements for TAG fulfilled by Spring 2014 would give me a pretty decent chance at getting into Davis via regular transfer, provided I don’t actually SUBMIT the agreement this Fall? (Hopefully that made sense)

Honestly your GPA is low for Davis. If you are actually able to bring it up to a 3.2 by the end of Fall, then you may have a shot. Applications are due in November, but we have to report fall grades, so if you can do a really big push this semester, I think you have somewhat of a chance. Your essay needs to be killer!

I go to De Anza too and its pretty much the same scenario for me, that is why I applied TAG for UCSC, but working toward a major boost in my GPA by Spring 2014 which will hopefully get me into Davis, if not at least Irvine or Riverside.

Honestly, I haven’t researched how competitive transfers are for CS at Davis, but IMO it doesn’t matter - you should still apply to Davis for regular transfer admission (TAG to a different UC you are eligible for), focus on raising your GPA and writing awesome essays, and hope for the best.

TAG in general is pretty strict on what they require for GPA, you would be removed during preliminary evaluation once they see that you haven’t met the GPA requirement. You can submit your TAG, but imo it’s pointless because you’re not qualified.

I say work hard & apply without TAG. Fall back on your personal statement & EC’s if you can.
