substance free housing?

is there substance free housing available at hamilton? if so, does it affect one's social life at all?

I was just visiting there, and my tour guide told me that there are sub-free dorms. As to social life, I have no idea, but I would say it depends on the person in question, as most things do. :)

there are two sub free dorms. it doesnt affect social life, you meet tons of people both in and out of your dormitory.

I lived in substance free housing my sophomore year (Root to be exact). It didn't hinder my social life one iota. In fact, I became close friends with the other students on my hall that year. But I still had friends outside of Root. With Root, the fact that it's on the south side/kirkland side of campus has more to do with its atmosphere than the fact it's substance free.

I know a lot of students here who live in substance-free housing, either because they chose to or (more likely) because they were placed into it. Sub-free housing doesn't stigmatize you at ALL at Hamilton. Seeing as Hamilton has a very inclusive, campus-wide social scene, where you live doesn't matter. At all. I currently live in one of the rowdier res halls on campus (South-- the one they show you on the tour), and there are many nights when I wish I lived in Root (the current sub-free hall).

Our college is thinking about having a substance-free floor for the first time. What are some of the issues that need to be thought out regarding enforcement, how presented to students, or any practical issues that aren't obvious?
