Substituting O-Levels for Secondary School

Okay, the problem now is: I intend to apply for admission to college in fall '07. However, the regular decision deadline for all material is January 1 '07. My A-level results, depending on when I sit for the exam, will be mailed, at the earliest, mid-December '07. There's no way I can rush them to my chosen colleges in time.

However, by then, I should have AS-level exams under my belt. Will those suffice, with a note tacked on that I will be able to provide A-level results for credit should I be admitted?

Hello!! I am a Malaysian too!! haha, but too bad I am currently studying in Singapore.. If I am not wrong, for my case, my school teacher will send Predicted A Level Results, based on your Preliminary Exam.. and when your A Level results are out, you are suppose to fax it over to the admission office.. yup

Hey, thanks! So the adcom doesn't mind if the results are faxed in a bit late? Oh, and one other question...what happens if I'm a private candidate and don't have a teacher to send predicted results? You probably don't know, but it's worth a shot. :p

Also, with O level, you can actually gain direct entry to universities.. I know of a girl who got 7A1s... plus.. actually got a full ride at Lake Forest College.. though I dont really know how good the college is. Another friend of mine went to Abilene Christian Texas U (something like that).. the other went to Buffalo U @ NY.. and I agree that the education system in M'sia sux... it's biased.. based on race.. For example, University admission is based on Race Quota and not Merit. Even for the public service commission scholarships.... they send mostly malays to top unis in US, UK and Australia.. whereas for CHinese.. my friend ended up @ Germany (free tuition), Indonesia (omg.. ), Russia, Ukraine. When will we ever break down the race barriers and truly call ourselves malaysianS? That's a big question. Sorry for the long post.. just need to get off the big unjust in my mind...

I am very sure about you being a private candidate.. I mean if you are a private candidate.. you wont have people to write for you recommendations right? Perhaps you would want to check out the home schooled section..

Lol, dude, that's right. Not just that, but the education in secondary schools itself sucks. (If you want to know what I mean, I blog at http://www.iroatm.cjb.net) It's good to know O-levels count, though. I kept wondering why everyone was saying it would be impossible to get into college with O-levels, seeing as people do it just fine here in Malaysia.

Edit:
Actually, I'll be taking economics, accounting and another subject at a private college here, but I'm also planning on sitting for an extra subject or two not covered by the college as a private candidate.

you are now taking PMR rite? soo you must be around 15? I suggest you do well for your PMR or SPM.., and apply for ASEAN scholarship.. come to Singapore at least to have a solid education.. and springboard to a brighter future...

Nah, don't want to travel too far from home while I'm still young. And the PMR sucks anyway. I hate it. I'll be better off finishing my O-levels.

hey, saw your stats.. it's amazing to see a PMR student doing soo well for SAT... congrats
