Does anyone out there have any stories of starting at a college, not really liking it, and then transferring and finding a much better experience?

I am at a CC, so these stories would be great!

Or any tips, etc on transferring

I transferred from one CC to another CC and then to UC Berkeley as an EECS major. It’s been an adventure, and I’m very happy to be here now.

In terms of things I wish I knew, well, I guess I wasn’t quite ready for things to get so hard so fast. The pace here is ridiculously quick, especially when you start out with summer sessions. Back in CC, I could take 20 credits in a semester/quarter and ace them all, here I had trouble managing 16 at a time. (Now I’m at 12 credits/semester and finally able to keep up.) Basically, if you’re making a big jump in terms of rigor and prestige, you probably want to take the first semester easy, until you adjust to the new pace. This might not be true for all schools and all majors, but wow was it a jump.

Any other tips for transferring (in terms of academics) is pretty specific to my case, mostly Berkeley is weird, doesn’t accept CS classes, and I kept changing between semesters and quarters…

I can’t say much in terms of social/whatever changes, the gap there is obvious. CC had no social scene, after transferring there are actually people around and things to do.

Overall I’m glad I transferred, it’s nice to be challenged again. I was always bored at CC, the classes were too easy. It’s more work here, but for me it was definitely the change I needed.

Good luck to all of you. :)

I started out at a four year university, realized it wasn’t for me, and transferred to another 4 year university January of my sophomore year.

I applied as a freshman during the spring and was rejected. I then applied again as a sophomore in the fall and was accepted. I transferred in as an honors student with a 3.8 GPA, so I did work hard to ensure my acceptance.

My second college was actually much more prestigious and had better resources than my first university. I graduated last spring and not once have I regretted my decision. It was actually one of the best decisions I ever met. I got a great job after college and met the love of my life while in class one day. :)

On resumes I do not include my first university. It was a decent school, but it kind of just takes of space when on paper. I have the diploma, and that’s all that matters.

So employers don’t usually care if you didn’t list your first college?

^ How would they even know you went there unless you say something? I only attended my first college for a year and one quarter before transferring. I identify 100% more with the college I graduated from. I don’t consider it sneaky or anything. I just don’t want to waste time explaining how when I was 19 I transferred colleges. I have way more important things to fill my resume with.

sorry… I don’t consider it sneaky either I was just wondering…
