Hi y'all. I am a junior. I took diagnostic sat test recently,
and the result is.....

math 600
read 360
writing 460
(essay 4)
TOTAL 1420

I know that it's such a shameful and I feel so ashamed!!
I signed up for January 27, 2007 SAT test..
My goal is getting a perfect score (or at least above 2300)
do you guys think it's possible?
Any GOOD prep book for improving READING section??
lol...I am so disappointed.....
I was overestimating myself...!!

don't feel gloomy abt it...
It happens and in ur case it happened for the good, now you are in no airs; you know you've gotta pump in.
BEST OF LUCK

Everyone ain't a born a genius, you acquire skills as you grow... 3 mnths it is very possible. Another advantage on ur side : it is easier to rise from the fall, then to correct yourself when you've just avoided it on the verge.

Use the Blue Book initially, spot your problem spots and then get into individual sections.

did you take the Princeton Review diagnostic test? if you did you shouldn't be too worried because i took that same one last year and score a 1500... then i took an official practice test a week later and scored a 1950 (no studying in between)... then after that i got a 2000 on the actual test...

so the PR diagnostic test tries to make you think you suck at the SAT so you'll sign up for their SAT prep classes... my best advice to you is take an official practice test out of the blue book and gauge yourself by that.

I took the SAT in June and scored a 1720:
520 CR
670 M
530 W 8 essay

I have been studying for the SAT since July, and even with my top scores of
610 CR, + 90
710 M, + 40 and
770 W + 250, I still can not reach my goal of 2200.

I believe the next score for this fellow will be in the range of 2000- 2100.

Does this seem reasonable?
CR = 360 +440<- Almost impossible
M = 600 +200<-Has to eliminate all careless errors
W = 460 +340<-Probable with a long essay

MAY BE WAS JUST NOT PREPAREd, seeing the kind of questions for the very first time... i cannot guarantee a score jump like that, but if one pulls himself up, tackles the ball well then well, he can score the 'goal'

AH Rider of the Shadows you had a tremendous improvement on your writing section, how did you make that possible... and what was your essay sub-score?

Its pretty easy to improve your scores in the math and the writing section. Practice a lot and it'll definitely increase. For writing if you practice and read the answer explanations you'll increase your score pretty quickly. Same for maths. For critical reading, may be he didn't know the "college" vocab. words.
I think its doable but its going to take a lot of work ( just like BRIAN said)

I just have to say that I took Kaplan's Diagnostic Test a couple of weeks before my test (yeah, I am a procrastinator) and scored something like M 580, CR 480, W 520, and I was able to increase my score to a 2130 for the real test. I attribute this dramatic increase to the abnormal difficulty of the diagnostic test and a "little" studying--low diagnostic scores like those can scare you. However, in retrospect, I don't think those scores are truly indicative of what you will score during the actual test. Prepare and you will be fine (especially since you are only a junior right now).

The first time I ever took the test I got:
CR 430
M 460
W 630

I took an SAT prep course during the summer of 2005 and learned the basics (don't guess, etc.) but I only improved by 100 points or so.

In December I bought a Grammtix book and did some minimal studying. In January I took the real test for the first time and my scores went like this:
CR 630
M 550
W 600
CR and M were the highest I EVER got (I took at least 5 practice tests during the summer but none during my study session in January).

If you REALLY study then you could probably bring up your scores to a 2000 or so but you have to rememeber that the SAT isn't easy. I've taken the SAT twice now and my best combined is only 1810. A lot of kids on this site may give off the impression that the SATs are easy when they actually aren't. But if you really want to see an improvement, start studying NOW!

Hey look, you wrote in one of your previous posts that you just moved from Korea a little over a year ago. College admissions officers will see that and take that into account! By all means work hard but don't kill yourself over it.

It's not a shameful score for someone who hasn't been immersed in an English-speaking environment for his entire life. If you stuck me in some asian country right and made me take college entrance exams at the end of the year I would probably fail miserably - and I'm asian.

I have a friend who was in a situation similar to yours. He had moved from Vietnam in his junior year of high school. Needless to say, his SAT CR and Writing scores were less than steller. Based on other merits however, he's currently at a top college.

Personally, I improved my score by 350 points from a 1990 to a 2340. Given, I threw up right before the test, was sick, and was like 13 the first time but still. A year later, I now have a 2340. It's possible.
