I am from third world country. Graduated from high school with 78% marks in 2007 and have tutored students since then....

Gave SAT on May the 7th... and expecting no more than 2050.... SAT IIs might yield around 780s...

Had extenuating personal circumstances to deal with..... I don't have any money...

Kindly tell me if I should apply for any colleges in US, esp because I don't have stellar grades and scores or much money either.....

I don't want to disappoint myself big with rejections when they pile on...

wanted to know if there is any college where I have a fair chance of getting in and more importantly getting the scholarship to sustain too........

please advice... thank you... for reading....

If there aren’t then I would simply stop this process here before it gets too big to deal with after all the disappointments…

School in UK may be cheaper. US is really expensive. It seems that you do not have the stats for Harvard. That is too bad.

I am neither fan of paulo coelho nor of famous quotations. but this one fits the situation so well…
“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”

@kheiron… thank you for immensely inspiring lines… but that is the way I am … a little bit fearful…

@kxc I don’t have any obsession with Ivy or Harvard or Top colleges… I would be more than happy to get a small liberal arts college with good opportunities… Is that possible??

Your grades aren’t particularly good, and you can’t pay for your studies yourself. That is not a good combination. If you had lots of money, there would be some place in the US that would be happy to take you. Since you don’t have any money, you would need a big scholarship and those are only offered to top students.

I’d suggest that you get in touch with the closest office of Education USA, and ask the counselors there whether they think a student like you can get the scholarship money that you would need. They should be able to give you a clear answer.
Oh and please pass on the message that students “take” the SAT. The exam is “given” by ETS (the company) at multiple locations. I know that sometimes it is hard to keep the difference between “give” and “take” straight, just like it can be hard to keep “go” and “come” straight, but this is the kind of thing that will cause big communication problems if you do end up in the US.
