I am Saif Al Mahmud from Bangladesh. I want to study undergraduate in fall 2014 in USA. I am sitting for SAT this November. My predicted scores are:
CR-540
Math-800
Writing-530

GPA and rank:
My high school GPA is 5.00 out of 5.00 (3.93 in 4.00 system)
My rank is 2 out of 493

EC:
I have done a lot of social and extracurricular activities. I am very good in playing Cricket( I know that it is very irregular in USA) . I have worked for an NGO in "making people aware of Drinking pure water and sanitation" . I have done 9 months interns in a company (3 months each year. and this is very rare chance for a high school student. And I was a private tutor of a school student of class 8 for 2 years. I am president of debate club of our school and organizing secretary of Science club. I am mentor in my school , I work to rehabilitate drug addicted young students.

My Financial Condition:
ah... Here is the problem. I know as a international student it is very hard for me to get into a college or uni with full tuition with such low scores in SAT. But I am very eager for going USA for undergraduate. My family income is too low (less than 10k per year) My uncle who is in USA will spend not more than 12k per year. I need full tuition or full funding (sounds impossible). What should I do? Should I close the dreams? Is that possible to get into universities? What is my chance there?

Please if u want to help me ,thanks in advance.I will be really grateful to u. Please name some institutions and the chance of getting there.

Your GPA certainly can do you wonders, but your SAT score, which is about a 1900, may be holding you back. I think of the schools you listed:

Caldwell: Low Match
Wooster: low Match
Rochester: High Match
Troy: Low MAtch
Florida A&M: Match
IIT: Match
Depaw: Low MAtch
Earlham: Match
Berea: Reach (for anyone, but especially because of your SAT)

As you can see, you can definitely go and reach higher than your current schools. I’d even consider looking at a low Ivy like Cornell- you never know how much they’ll love international students.

Thank u so much movieman706. Really your suggestion is helping me a lot… I was leaving my hope.
Are u really sure about Low IVY League with just 1870?
Can u Please suggest me some safety schools?
And another question did u consider my financial condition (here is the real problem) ?
Again thanks to u. And please suggest me some safety schools…

Do you think there is any shot of getting that CR score up? I think if you can get it up to a 600, you’ll seem far more competitive. Considering that you’re an international student and you have a great gpa, you can probably get into every school you’ve listed aside from Berea.

Caldwell: Safety
Wooster: I don’t know anything about Wooster, but I’s say Low Match
Rochester: High Match (Match with better SAT’s)
Troy: Safety
Florida A&M: Match
IIT: Low Match / Match
Depauw: Low Match
Earlham: Low Match
Berea: Reach

Have you considered taking any subject tests? If you can score well on tests pertaining to your expected major, you should probably do it as you will stand out more and be more likely to get scholarships.

Caldwell: Safety
Wooster: Low match
U Rochester: High match
Troy: Safety
FAMU: Safety
IIT: Low match/Match
DePauw: Low match
Earlham: Low match
Berea: Reach

Are you sure that you guys didn’t give out verdicts for Texas A&M instead? A 3.93/1870 international student is a match there… while Florida A&M is a safety at 3.0/1550.

For some safety schools, I’d consider big-name state colleges that accept international students frequently. The following list may help you, in order of prestige in the States:

Ohio State
UConn
University of Florida
UMass Amherst
UVM

Thank U so much IAMike
I am going to chance you . I am trying very very hard to increase the score of CR. But it is very hard for me as I study in Bengali medium school. It is very rare from a Bengali medium school students score better than 500. I am thinking of taking SAT math 2. And i am preparing for that… Any suggestion for increasing my SAT CR score?

Thank u so much catria
I thought of berea as my dream school. U mentioned caldwell , troy , FAMU is safety for me. IS 12k enough for my study there ( I think they will give some aid) Are u sure that 3.0/1550 is safety in FAMU?
Then should I add Texas A&M into my list. Please dear respected adviser suggest me with considering my financial condition. Really thanks catria

Oh thank u very very much dear movieman706. I am going through the list. Did u consider my financial condition while suggesting me? Thanks Movieman706

I agree with Catria. I think your great academics and pretty good extracurriculars will help outweigh your test scores (which they’ll overlook to some extent because you’re foreign). Thanks for chancing me!
