Suggest schools for me please!! (BU, NEU, Miami)

Hi this is my first post here, and I am looking for some guidance. I only have a few colleges that I am interested in as of now, and would like some help finding others similar to what I have.

I am thinking about majoring in accounting or physical therapy. I know most schools don't have an accelerated PT track, but it would be nice to have so I don't have to go for an extra year. Obviously, these majors are just speculation, I am not stuck with them in any way.

Anyway here are my stats:

Rising senior. White.

3.75 unweighted GPA. Will graduate with 3 AP's. I am in advanced science and math (not AP's)

630 reading
590 math
640 writing

1220/1600 and 1860/2400. I know my math must be improved, I have one more chance.

EC's:

Football for 4 years (JV- 2 years, Varsity- 2 years.) Possible captain and all-division awards this year.
Outdoor track for 2 years, with 2 varsity letters. Will continue for a 3rd year.
Wrestling- one year
National Italian Honor Society- 2 years
Started my own business with over $3,500 in sales. Running it for about 2 years now. I have about 5 people working for me. (hope this shows initiative and leadership.)

please tell me areas I must improve in. I know need to do some community service.

finally onto the schools. I am looking into schools that are 10,000 + students but I can settle for a smaller school, but not too small (lower than 4,00 students). I am located in NY and would like to stay on the east coast.

Also, financial aid is not a problem. Money is no concern.

Reaches:

University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill
University of Virginia

Matches:

University of Miami
Boston University
Northeastern University

Safety:

????? none

Right now, my favorite is Northeastern. I am very concerned with getting a job, and NEU's co-op program is excellent from what I have read.

Please suggest areas that I must improve (grades, EC's, etc) and suggest some colleges for me!! :)

thanks so much.

I can’t suggest schools in that area, but you’ve got money, good grades, good ECs - way to go! I don’t think volunteering beginning in September of the senior year is going to impress a lot of people, but I could be wrong. You already know that your math SAT is your weak point. You might want to search for other schools with strong co-op programs. I think Northeastern’s is one of the best, but there are others as well.

Good luck!

Check out some other schools with co-op programs like Drexel and Hofstra and Pace and see if any of those work for you.

And don’t bother doing volunteer work - you have plenty of ECs that show significant accomplishment. Volunteer work is not required or even recommended - it’s just one more activity you can do like school clubs.

And take a look at the Smith School of Business at UMD and the honors programs. That might also be a good fit, with easy access to Washington DC via metro.

UM may be a reach. DPT is a graduate degree at UM. All new physical therapy grads must have a DPT degree, at least a 6 yr total program.

Definite reaches
UNC highly favors in state
UVA has tons of OOS applicants

GPA is good but you probably want over a 2100 SAT for UVA

George Mason
James Madison
Virginia Tech are all big VA schools

Thanks for all of the replies, I will check out the schools mentioned.

@Dragonflygarden: I am from NY so out of state for both schools you mentioned (UVA & UNC) Thanks for the schools.

anymore suggestions?

bumpppppppppppppp

Ivy level stats are needed for unc oos, as a reach school I would pick wake forest instead since they are SAT optional. Both schools are in north Carolina with ACC sports

thanks for the suggestion. any other opinions?

Investigate both accounting and PT as careers. Talk to people who do those jobs. Accounting is primarily data-based. You interact with numbers. Physical therapy requires significant math and science, but you work with people (who are injured and may not be especially polite to somebody who is nagging them to do things that hurt).

thanks for that.

any other suggestions for schools?

bumppppppppppppppppppp

pleaseeeeeee help

no more suggestions? :(
