Hey can you guys suggest a couple safeties/matches for me? My stats are:
2150 SAT(750 CR, 690 M, 710 W)
790 US history, 670 Lit(planning on retaking)
I have fairly decent, though not mindblowing EC's. I plan on majoring in either political science or economics. I also want to be in or near a large city(I want the college to have an actual campus though) Also, the school needs to have fairly generous finaid, whether merit or need based. Oh, and I'm not URM or anything(unless questbridge counts) Thanks!

what are your grades like?

3.97 unweighted, ~4.5 weighted, right now i'm ranked 6 out of 350(my school kinda sucks though), I took the most challenging curriculum available such as AP's, honors, etc.

Do you want a big or small school? And do you have any regional preferences?

Syracuse and University of Rochester are both good with merit aid.

I want a small to medium sized school (3-8k), while the region doesn't matter that much, as long as it's in or near a large city.

You might want to look into Rice University.

They may be a bit too small (but I love small small colleges)... You should at least give serious consideration to...

Haverford (near Philadelphia)
Macalester (near Minneapolis)
Pomona (near Los Angeles)
Swarthmore (near Philadelphia)

bump...any suggestions for safeties?...Thanks so far!

bump(10char)

Case Western has good aid and is in a city. Not sure about those majors, though.

If you are female, Wellesley is worth considering (strong econ and political science, near major city, great need-based financial aid.) Claremont McKenna would be very small, but great for econ, poli sci and financial aid. Agree with the Macalester suggestion.

If you don't seem to care about region or size these schools have merit money: For "safeties" look at Denison (good economics dept, about an hour from Columbus, Ohio), Lafayette College (about 1.5 hour from NYC or Philadelphia) l6,000$ Marquis scholarship, for larger schools in Boston could look at Northeastern, Boston University. (not sure about merit) Some of my D's friends got merit money at Univ. of Delaware, George Washingon univ in D.C. and another one at Carnegie Melon (not a safety). Just find one or two safeties you feel you could be happy at. Of course, apply to your state's schools as well. It's tough out there.

Studying economics and in/near a large city and no one's mentioned UChicago?

Vassar (somewhat close to New York City)
