Suggest some schools please? :)

Hi guys. I've applied to one reach school, 2 matches, and a safety. I want to add a couple reaches/matches to my list.

My major will probably be engineering, so any top ranked engineering school would be nice. I'm also looking for a school that is known nationally, and is preferably private with a low student-teacher ratio. Lastly, a school that is near a big city (not in the middle of nowhere :P).

The only school I found that satisfied these conditions was Northwestern, and I've applied there but since it's so hard to get in I kinda wanted to add more reaches/matches. Thanks in advance!

Wrongbelief,

Assuming good grades and test scores, you might try one or more of the following: Wash U, Penn, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, Southern Cal, Carnegie Mellon, Case Western, MIT, and Rice.

Ugh, yeah I forgot to add. I didn’t take chem/physics as subject tests since I never took physics due to IB scheduling. I know Carnegie Mellon and Columbia require those tests, and Penn strongly recommends it.

Rice and Wash U; are they really known?

Rice and Wash U are “really” known. What schools have you already applied to?

You don’t say your qualifications so it’s hard to say where you could go. But “top-ranked” engineering schools are MIT, Caltech, Olin, and Harvey Mudd. Although Olin and Mudd are well-known in industry, nobody else has heard of them. All four of them are reaches no matter what your qualifications.

If your GPA/test scores are a bit lower, Case Western and Rose Hulman are both well-known.

Mudd, Olin, and Rose Hulman only have STEM majors.

^ spoken like the mother of a Mudd student. Consider also schools like The Colorado School of Mines Though they are not private i think they meet all other criteria.

My apologies. I was in a hurry yesterday. Normally when I post something like that I say “Rose Hulman has recently always been ranked first in USNWR’s rankings for engineering schools with no doctoral program, and they often let Mudd share that spot with them”.

Other than that, I don’t know what I said that could be objectionable.

In any case, good luck!

I was just commenting on the clumping no harm no foul. There was no need for correction.
